Ben Verkaik
is a lifelong resident of Bradford West Gwillimbury who has lived in Ward 3 (Line 4) for the past 22 years and was raised in the Holland Marsh. Together with his wife, Jeannette, they raised their 3 children in Bradford West Gwillimbury and now enjoy spending time with their 3 grandchildren. He is an honours graduate of Bradford District High School and earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, Chemical Engineering, at the University of Waterloo. He is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 35 years' experience in manufacturing leadership.
Ben is currently serving as Ward 3 Councillor for the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. During this Council Term he is also serving as Chair of the Heritage Advisory Committee, Vice-Chair of the Holland Marsh Drainage System Joint Municipal Service Board and member of the Green Initiatives Advisory & Strategic Priorities Committees.
Ben spent 9 years serving on Church Council at the Springdale CRC and is a member at Sovereign Grace Church at the 5th Sideroad and Canal Road. He has also served on the Board of Directors at King Christian School for 10 years and is currently on the Finance Committee at KCS. From 2011 to 2017 he was Chair of the Building Committee for the new King Christian School on Bathurst Street.
Ben is Chair of the Board of Directors for WOW-Living, a local organization committed to helping Bradford residents in need with the Hand Up Clothing Room, the Out of the Cold Café and an Overnight Warming Centre. He also volunteers at the Out of the Cold Café located in the 177 Church Street Community Hub. He was a 3-time volunteer with World Renew Disaster Response Services rebuilding homes damaged by tornados and floods.
